Exploring STEM job possibilities
On June 29th, we’re heading over to Bradford’s Midland Hotel for #exabytes18, our third annual conference for teachers, where we’re hosting over 20 sessions covering a diverse range of topics including everything from tried and tested classroom approaches to ways to effectively integrate technology in the classroom. With so many fantastic events planned for #exabytes18, and time running out to book a ticket, we’re taking a quick look at a few of the key sessions taking place at the show - stay tuned for more posts!
When students think about the job market for subjects like Computing, there’s still a bit of a tendency to imagine sitting behind a computer writing code all day. However, STEM job roles span far more ground than this, with a huge range of exciting and engaging potential roles available for students.
At #exabytes18, we’re hosting a session designed to take an in-depth look at some of these potential careers, giving teachers real-world understanding of the possibilities that Computing opens up for students, an incredible way to engage learners and get them thinking about Computing (and STEM subjects as a whole) in a very different light.
This session, ‘Script to Screen STEM Roles’ will be run by Jessie Harris, Lead Education Facilitator over at the Emmerdale Experience, and will be taking a look at the huge range of STEM-based roles that go into making shows like Emmerdale, from special effects and post-production work to more STEAM-focused roles, illustrating the very real opportunities out there.
